Composer and producer Sofia Dragt released Roseval on 23 October via SYD Records, marking a new artistic direction for the Dutch musician. Blending neo-classical composition with singer-songwriter sensibilities and an experimental approach to creativity, the album finds inspiration in the unexpected.

Emerging from what Dragt describes as a collaboration between her adult self and her “inner child”, Roseval embraces intuition, experimentation and playfulness. Known for her work as a singer-songwriter and film composer, Dragt takes a more exploratory approach to the record, allowing instinct and curiosity to guide the creative process. The album was mastered by Zino Mikorey, whose credits include work with Nils Frahm and Ólafur Arnalds.

At the centre of Roseval is Dragt’s beloved Schimmel upright piano, accompanied by airy vocals, delicate strings and atmospheric soundscapes. While rooted in the neo-classical tradition, the album retains traces of her singer-songwriter background through its melodic clarity, accessible song structures and narrative-driven atmosphere.

The album’s title references Roseval, a French potato variety known for its distinctive red skin. Extending the concept throughout the record, each track is named after a different potato variety, with each representing its own flavour and mood. This unusual connection between piano and potato reflects the album’s broader emphasis on finding creative inspiration in unexpected places.

An exclusive listening party took place on 4 October, featuring a live performance of one of the album’s tracks, vinyl sales, and potato-inspired snacks and drinks. Roseval is available now on major streaming platforms, with a limited-edition vinyl release to follow.
