Edoardo Petracci unveils his debut solo album, By This Window, today, June 5. The Italian composer and performer, born in the Marche region and now based in Rome, trained in classical double bass at the Conservatory of Fermo before specializing in composition at the Conservatory of Perugia and film scoring at Rome’s Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. His work already spans theatre and cinema, with credits including music for Jasper Halle’s Irene K. and Amleto, Un Principe Mille Volti at Teatro India in Rome. Internationally, he scored Gianluca Iumiento’s The Game and Exodus, a Bosnia-and-Herzegovina–Norway co-production that premiered at SARTR Theatre in Sarajevo. Petracci also composed the original score for Animalia, directed by Marius Rolfsvåg, which premiered at the 2025 Sitges Film Festival and won the Méliès d’Argent for Best European Short Film at the Trieste Science+Fiction Festival.

By This Window emerges from the interplay of acoustic instruments and electronic elements, constructing a sound world rooted in classical discipline yet animated by contemporary technique. The album took shape in isolation in Italy’s Sila mountains, where Petracci transformed a rural house into a working studio. Recording exclusively on analog machines and tape, he preserved the physicality of each performance. The result fuses classical and ethnic instruments with modular synthesis, ambient layers, and electronic processing, yielding evolving textures that blur the line between live performance and studio precision. Throughout, rarefied atmospheres and measured pacing allow technique and instinct to coexist.

The listening experience is fundamentally intellectual. The album invites close attention to resonance, both as physical vibration and as emotional trace, revealing how a single sustained tone can embody centuries of classical tradition while dissolving into the present. Every aspect of the process, from format to location and balance, was chosen to prioritize perception over spectacle. The record resists functioning as mere ambient background music, instead presenting a subtle argument for what the genre can disclose when the production is granted full attention. This is music that trusts the ear to engage the mind.

Self-funded through a successful Kickstarter campaign and completed independently, the project reached final mastering in Berlin with Grammy-nominated engineer Zino Mikorey. By This Window creates a space where listening and perception converge. Each piece serves as an entryway into an interior landscape, inviting the listener to pause, register resonance, and sense the emotional weight carried by silence and sustained sound. In this debut, Petracci’s distinct musical language is fully realized.
