Moby Unveils Serene New Ambient LP Future Quiet with Reimagined Classic

Veteran electronic producer Moby continues his dive into minimalist soundscapes with the upcoming album Future Quiet, arriving February 20 via BMG. The record serves as a direct successor to his stripped-back Ambient 23, leaning heavily into ambient territory while nodding to the hazy, reverb-drenched aesthetics of Cocteau Twins and This Mortal Coil. Over three decades into his career, Moby has shifted between high-energy rave anthems and contemplative instrumental works, and this latest effort finds him firmly in the latter lane, prioritizing texture and restraint over beats.

The project is introduced by a striking rework of his 1995 track ‘When It’s Cold I’d Like to Die‘, now featuring the soaring vocals of Gabriels frontman Jacob Lusk. Originally appearing on Everything Is Wrong with Mimi Goese on vocals, the song experienced a second life through its prominent placement in Stranger Things. While the album remains mostly instrumental, it includes select guest spots from serpentwithfeet, Elise Serenelle, and India Carney, adding measured vocal layers to the otherwise sparse arrangements. A full tour in support of the release will be revealed shortly.

Across its runtime, Future Quiet maintains a tight sonic thread, with understated drones and gentle atmospheric shifts forming the backbone. Guest performances integrate cleanly rather than standing apart, allowing each voice to surface naturally within the mix. The production favors negative space, giving subtle harmonic movement and faint melodic fragments room to breathe, resulting in a record that feels purposefully contained yet emotionally resonant.
