2smile Presents ‘Tribute To Frikkyo – The Remixes’ On Their Ondawey Music Imprint

2smile, the French production duo, are making a comeback with a remix collection of their hit track ‘Tribute To Frikkyo’, originally dedicated to the late DJ Da Frikkyo, a pivotal figure in the Italian hard techno scene. The Ondawey Music label heads are revisiting this standout single with two impressive new remixes: one by Alex Fixman and another Afro Rework from themselves. 2smile continues to expand their Ondawey Music label with a diverse range of releases spanning Melodic Techno, Tech House, and Afro House. With a repertoire of over 100 unreleased tracks, they seamlessly blend genres and draw from global musical influences.

The original version of the track received praise from industry luminaries such as Laurent Garnier, Terry Francis, Deer Jade, Mike Van Brugge, Paco Osuna, Steve Lawler, and Don Diablo. Created on the night of Frikkyo’s passing, the duo reflects on their creative process as deeply spiritual, evoking a feeling of being guided by an ethereal influence. The track seamlessly blends dynamic guitars and velvety basslines with sampled vocals from the legendary Fela Kuti. This fusion creates a captivating sonic experience, honouring the life and influence of a beloved friend.

Alex Fixman maintains the hypnotic essence of the original while exploring a slightly deeper direction in his Techno-influenced remix, infused with breakbeats. This reinterpretation is poised to make a strong impact on dancefloors globally, driven by its heavy bass and commanding kick drum.

The remix by 2smile features beefy drum patterns and evolving experimental guitar riffs, offering a more straightforward approach than the original. It integrates well-timed effects and maintains a compelling groove, inviting further experimentation.
