English musician, record producer, and singer-songwriter Jasper Sommer has unveiled a new single, ‘Memento’, on the 1st of December 2023 via EFG Records Oy. Currently based in Finland, this musical maestro has already received mainstream publication support from the likes of COMPLEX UK and Earmilk, drawing comparisons to the likes of Four Tet and James Blake. In addition, his latest single, ‘We Could Rule The World’, received support from notable tastemaker NOTION Magazine and Numéro Magazine.
‘Memento’ is an ambient track reminiscent of the works of Jai Paul and James Blake. Produced by Jasper himself, the song’s production showcases his unique way of genre-bending. A slow yet glitchy hip hop rhythm carries his languid, velvety vocals, contrasting and mimicking the rhythm section with a touch of pop sensibility. His lyrics are melancholic and introspective, ruminating on themes of attachment, happiness and alienation, transporting the listener to powerfully moving emotional landscapes.
Jasper shared: “The title song of the EP, ‘Memento’, is about holding onto the things that bring us happiness, whilst also learning to let go of the things that no longer serve us.”
