The UK-based independent label Folded Music has released its first label compilation: Modern Music Vol. 1 curated by the gifted label head Asta Hiroki. The collection acts as an insight into the world of Folded Music, and an end-of-year look back at some of the catalogues you might have missed, and a glimpse of what’s to come with a clutch of new material too.
The 9 track compilation takes listeners on a journey overflowing with sonic explorations found in the lush and tentative Hit-hat laced with dripping synths in the track ‘Dispatch’ by green tree to the condensed and mid-tempo synths accompanied by captivating soft vocals in the song ‘Without You’ by Fdluxx and the track ‘counterfeit-Asta Hiroki edit’ by FLOCKS and Asta Hiroki contains fast-tempo drum beats that are highlighted by crips piano note giving the track a raw quality, just to mention a few. Every song in the compilation deserves mentioning because they all are superbly arranged and transport listeners to an auditory exhilaration.
Spanning the full spectrum of what the imprint offers, the collection covers lofi beats, IDM, downtempo jazztronica, and ambient styles. Showcasing some fantastic tracks from the year’s releases to date including Fthmlss, Catch92, Asta Hiroki, FLOCKS, Tristan de Liege, and Bon-Psy, alongside new exclusive new material from friends of the label: green tee, Mick Destitute, PAWELG. and Fdluxx. In addition to being delightfully varied, the quality of the tracks is undeniable, with some considerable support already coming from the likes of BBC6Music, BBC Radio 1, XLR8R, ThisSongIsSick, and Spotify Editorial.
